INDIANOLA, Miss.–Bodycam video from Indianola Police Sgt. Greg Capers was released to the public by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. It shows the shooting of 11-year-old Aderrien Murray from Caper’s point of view.
Before the May 20 shooting, and shortly after officers arrived at the Murray home, you can hear Capers asking dispatch if he had permission to kick in the front door. Dispatch responded that he had permission. After officers were able to get in, Capers ordered everyone in the house out. Murray’s mother exited with her hands raised.
“Where is he at? Where is he at? You better come on out!” Capers asks, expecting to see Murray’s boyfriend, about whom the call was made.
“You got any weapons, you better put ’em down,” says Capers.
As Capers turns the corner into the front door, he fires almost immediately. He then begins screaming, “Oh my God!” and telling dispatch to call for an ambulance.
The video had been previously sealed by the court, though Murray’s attorney Carlos Moore has called for its release, saying he believes it will prove that Capers should not be on the force.
Capers was cleared of any criminal conduct and was reinstated late last year by the city Board of Alderman.
