The Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) has appointed James “Jimmy” Herzog as the new Lieutenant Colonel and Director of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI), according to Commissioner Sean Tindell. Herzog will assume his new role on February 1, 2024.

Governor Tate Reeves congratulated Herzog on his appointment, highlighting his extensive experience in law enforcement. Herzog has dedicated three decades to the profession and has proven himself as a dedicated public servant committed to protecting and serving Mississippians. Governor Reeves expressed confidence that MBI will thrive under Herzog’s leadership.

Herzog’s impressive career in law enforcement began at the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and Mississippi Highway Patrol. Since July 2022, he has served as Chief of Security at the Mississippi Department of Agriculture. Before this role, Herzog retired from MBI, where he held various positions. Notably, he oversaw the Special Operations and Major Crime Unit as Captain, which managed the state’s Amber and Silver Alert System. Herzog also played a crucial role in creating the Endangered and Missing Child Alert System for Mississippi.
