Greenville Mid-Delta Regional Airport Suffered Delays During Inclement Weather

GREENVILLE, Miss.–The Greenville Mid-Delta Regional Airport shouldn’t suffer because of the delays last month, says Mayor Erick Simmons. Simmons made that sentiment known during Tuesday’s city council meeting.

The airport serves a large portion of the Delta with regional flights and is served by Contour Airlines. The airline reported some delays last month because of the weather. Ice on the runway had the airport shut down for two days. Some of the delays were also blamed on mechanical issues, said one city official.
“This council is aware the difficulty it is for us to talk about reliability, being on time, when we talk about cancellations of that magnitude,” said Simmons.
New airlines have reached out to compete to serve the airport, according to information presented at the meeting. Simmons is concerned with the city and airport’s image, especially with the possibility of a new airline coming in.
He also expressed concern about the airport having newer planes.
“I don’t want Greenville getting the short end of the stick in moving planes into new markets and putting us last,” he said.
