YAZOO CITY, Miss.–The funeral for a well-known Delta police chief is Saturday. Kenneth Hampton, who served as chief in Yazoo City, Shelby and Tchula, will be buried at Cypress Gardens Cemetery after a noon service at the L.T Miller Community center in Yazoo.
Hampton, known for his tough talk that sometimes got him into trouble simultaneously with the criminal element he battled, and politicians who controled his employment and the purse strings of the departments he led, died Sunday of a heart attack at age 54.
Hampton was on his second stint as police chief of Tchula, in Holmes County.
Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at Scott Funeral Home.
