SOUTHAVEN, Miss.–The Sheriff of DeSoto County says his county is safe and that he believes it’s the criminal element coming from Delta counties that pose the most danger, not crooks coming south from Memphis.
Sheriff Thomas Tuggle made the comments at a county-wide town hall Tuesday night.
“The most violent criminals that are trying to get into our county are not coming from Memphis, they’re coming from the Mississippi Delta,” he said from the stage.
Tuggle later repeated the claim when talking with reporters.
“The most violent criminals that are trying to get into our county are not coming from Memphis. It’s coming from the Mississippi Delta, that criminal element coming up from the Delta is looking for opportunities,” he said.
Tuggle explained his plan to try and intervene in young people’s lives early by having deputies visit classrooms.
