MOOREHEAD, Miss.–One of the places that may have been hardest hit by Sunday’s severe thunderstorm that caused damage through the Delta and in central Mississippi, is Moorhead.

Power restoration was taking longer than expected and Moorhead Central was closed Monday, according to the Sunflower County School District.
“We chainsawed until about 4:30 this morning. That’s why my eyes are looking tired,” said Sunflower County Building Inspector Percell Moore, during Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. “One of my renters, a tree fell over completely in the house and they were in the house. We’re not concerned about the house. Thank God for preserving life.
He said a church burned in the north part of the county because of an electrical issue caused by the storm.
Trees were reported down in several places in Sunflower County.
