TALLAHATCHIE COUNTY, Miss.–No significant injuries were reported, but as many as 15 train cars were damaged, some seriously, in a derailment in Tallahatchie County Saturday.
It was not immediately clear how the derailment happened and it will likely be up to OSHA and the National Transportation Safety Board now to make that determination. Those investigations can sometimes take several months.
Smoke could be seen for miles as materials inside some of the cars burned.
Coahoma County Fire Dept. Haz Mat Tech Hunter Rybolt responded to help, as did the county’s chief, as firefighters from several departments pooled to help get the situation under control.
Drone photography showed the cars scattered in a zigzag pattern on and beside the damaged track.
