CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State University is congratulating alumna Celeste Embrey Wilson following her appointment to the Mississippi Supreme Court by Gov. Tate Reeves.
Wilson, of Southaven, was appointed to represent Northern District 3, Place 1. She will fill the vacancy created after Justice Robert P. Chamberlin was confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi.
In announcing the appointment, Reeves praised Wilson’s judicial experience and commitment to public service, saying her career demonstrates integrity, fairness and a strong understanding of Mississippi’s legal system.
Wilson has served as a circuit court judge for Mississippi’s 21st Judicial District, which covers DeSoto County, since 2017. She was first appointed to the bench in the former 17th Judicial District before the district was reorganized. Before that, she served as a DeSoto County Court judge from 2009 to 2017 and spent seven years as an assistant district attorney in Mississippi’s 17th Judicial District.
“I am deeply honored and humbled by this appointment and grateful for the confidence Governor Reeves has placed in me,” Wilson said in a statement. “I look forward to serving the people of Mississippi with integrity and an unwavering commitment to our Constitution and the rule of law.”
Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree from Delta State University and a Juris Doctor from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis.
Wilson’s term on the state’s highest court will begin Aug. 1 and continue until the position is filled through a special election.
