GREENVILLE, Miss. — The City of Greenville will host voter registration events Sept. 15 in observance of National Voter Registration Day.
The city, in partnership with the Greenville Fire Department, Greenville Parks and Recreation and the Greenville, Mississippi, chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., will encourage eligible residents to register to vote, update their voter information and prepare to participate in upcoming elections.
Registration assistance will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the following locations:
Buster Brown Community Center, 400 E. Robertshaw St.
Greenville City Hall, 340 Main St.
Greenville fire stations 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7
The city also announced that the first three people at each location will receive a free gas card, while supplies last.
Greenville Mayor Erick D. Simmons encouraged residents to take part in the initiative.
“Voting is one of the most powerful ways we can make our voices heard and help shape the future of our community,” Simmons said. “I encourage every eligible Greenville resident to make sure they are registered, informed and prepared to participate. When our citizens are engaged, Greenville is stronger.”
National Voter Registration Day is observed annually to encourage voter registration and civic participation across the country.
The city urged Greenville residents to use the Sept. 15 events as an opportunity to make sure their voter registration information is current and that they are prepared to vote.
