GREENVILLE, Miss. — A traffic stop by the Greenville Police Department’s Special Operations Division led to the arrest of a man and the recovery of a firearm allegedly equipped with a machine gun conversion device, police said.
Investigators conducting a saturation detail stopped a Chevrolet Tahoe at about 10:51 p.m. on Reed Road for an equipment violation, according to police.
During the investigation, officers recovered suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia, ammunition and other items from the vehicle, police said.
A subsequent search of the Tahoe led investigators to a concealed firearm inside a compartment in the vehicle’s center console. Police said investigators determined the firearm had allegedly been modified with a machine gun conversion device, commonly known as a “switch.”
Cedric Curtis Jr. was arrested and transported to the Greenville Police Department. Investigators also determined Curtis has a prior felony conviction, according to police.
Curtis was additionally cited for improper equipment, an expired tag, possession of marijuana less than 30 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The firearm-related investigation remains ongoing, police said.
All persons arrested or charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
