INDIANOLA, Miss. — The Mississippi Center for Justice will host its annual Expungement Clinic on Friday, offering eligible Mississippians an opportunity to address criminal records that may create barriers to employment, housing and other opportunities.

The clinic, known as Amnesty Day, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mississippi Center for Justice’s Indianola office, 120 Court Ave.

MCJ attorneys, court representatives and other local partners will assist eligible participants with the expungement process. Organizers said the event is designed to help participants navigate the legal process and, in some cases, complete the process in a single day.

Participants in this year’s clinic have preregistered.

MCJ said the clinic also highlights the long-term effects a criminal record can have on individuals and the potential for eligible records to be removed, providing participants with a second chance.

The Mississippi Center for Justice is a nonprofit public interest law firm focused on advancing racial and economic justice in Mississippi. The organization works to address discrimination and poverty through legal advocacy and other strategies statewide.

The clinic will be held Friday, Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the MCJ Indianola office.
