CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State University’s enrollment increased 2.6% for fall 2026, marking the second consecutive year of growth, according to university officials.
The university reported 2,863 students enrolled this fall, up from 2,791 in fall 2025. Enrollment increased 5.2% the previous year.
Delta State President Dan Ennis attributed the continued growth to the university’s academic programs, campus experience and commitment to student success.
“Our faculty and staff take a personal interest in helping students succeed,” Ennis said. “That commitment, combined with strong academic programs and an engaging campus experience, gives students and families compelling reasons to choose Delta State.”
The enrollment increase comes as Mississippi’s public university system reported a slight decline in overall enrollment.
According to the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning, the state’s eight public universities enrolled 81,771 students in fall 2026, compared with 81,961 students the previous year, a decrease of 0.2%.
Al Rankins Jr., commissioner of higher education, said the universities must continue focusing on recruitment, student retention and academic outcomes.
The university said its enrollment growth reflects ongoing efforts to connect students with academic programs, career preparation and individualized support.
