3-Year-Old Killed, Others Injured in Head-On Collision Near Gunnison

A 3-year-old child was killed in a head-on collision Thursday night on Highway 1 in Bolivar County, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the crash occurred around 8:07 p.m. south of Gunnison. A 2021 Ram 2500 driven by 70-year-old William Pearson of Cleveland was traveling north when it collided with a southbound 2025 Kia Sportage driven by 29-year-old Barni L. Flore of Gunnison.

The 3-year-old passenger in the Kia was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. A 1-year-old child in the vehicle was hospitalized with moderate injuries. Flore was seriously injured and transported to Memphis for treatment.

Pearson was not injured. The crash is under investigation.
