CLARKSDALE, Miss.–At least 50 new Internal Revenue Service jobs are expected to come to Clarksdale. That announcement was made Tuesday at the Delta Regional Authority office.
The jobs will be part of the IRS Lifting Communities Up Initiative that is providing jobs and resources in Clarksdale and across the Delta.
“”Clarksdale won out in a big way,” said Rep. Bennie Thompson (D), who represents the Delta in Washington, one of the speakers at Tuesday’s press conference. “Not just here, but in Cleveland, Greenville.”
The jobs announced Tuesday are part of the expansion of a call center for customer service for the IRS, currently under construction.
“These are jobs that carry insurance, retirement,” said Thompson. “I think people saw what was in this community and said, ya know, we’re not going to leave Clarksdale. We’re going to expand our footprint in Clarksdale.”
Thompson was joined by IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel and others making the announcement.
