PARCHAMN, Miss.–A 71-year-old inmate escaped Tuesday from the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman. Nevin Whetstone, who has been in prison for more than 40 years, got away Tuesday morning., said the Mississippi Dept. of Corrections.
It was unclear how he made his escape.
Whetstone had been serving a life sentence for capital murder committed in Lee County and also a one-year term for escaping the Sunflower County Jail.
Whetstone was sentenced in 1984.
Corrections and other authorities were helping in the search for Whetstone. He’s a white male, 6 ft. tall and 175 lbs. He may be wearing green and white striped prison pants and is considered dangerous.
