DeSOTO COUNTY, Miss.–A new scam was reported Thursday to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Dept. This time the sammers have been using the names of real deputies and spoofing with the department’s number to try to get people to give them their personal info.

“No deputy or police officer will ever ask for money or personal information over the phone claiming that you have a warrant, missed jury duty, or bond for a relative,” said the sheriff’s department, in a statement.
The department says they got several calls about the scam.
They also say that no reputable organization and no police agency would ask for money using bank transfer, Cashapp, Western Union or anything along those lines.
LAKE CORMORANT, Miss.–The Lake Cormorant High School girls volleyball team got props on the state Senate floor for their now being three-time 6A state champions.
Lake Cormorant High School has been in existence for 15 years. For 12 of those years, pointed out Sen. Michael McLendon, the girls were either ineligible to play or were champs.
He cited a former golfing buddy, musician Tony Joe White in a quote: “The gators will get their grannies. Well, these girls have been getting volleyball fannies all over the state.”
Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann added his congratulatory remarks.
“To be repeating champions, very difficult in Mississippi, particularly 6A,” he said.
