Local authorities were summoned to two separate armed robbery incidents on the evenings of Monday, November 27, 2023, and Tuesday, November 28, 2023.
The first incident unfolded around 8:50 pm at the Shady Nook Truck Stop at 16774 Highway 61 North. A clerk at the establishment reported a distressing encounter with an unidentified male. The perpetrator was described as a black male approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a black hoodie, pants, shoes, and face mask. The armed robber brandished a weapon, coercing the clerk to surrender both cash and Black and Mild Cigars. Following compliance, the suspect swiftly fled the scene in a white vehicle, heading south.
The unsettling trend continued on the following night at approximately 12:56 am when law enforcement responded to an armed robbery at the Double Quick Convenient Store, located at 1909 North State Street. This time, the assailant wielded a long gun wrapped in a sheet. The clerk was compelled to hand over money from the registers, complying with the robber’s demands. The suspect, described as a black male standing at 5 feet 7 inches, concealed his identity with a black ski mask and wore a navy blue puffy coat. Unlike the previous incident, the robber abandoned the scene on foot, leaving the parking lot.
