SOUTHAVEN, Miss.–One of the crimes that is more likely to happen now than just a few years ago is assault.
“That could be anywhere from simple assault, which can be as minor as a threat or a school fight, all the way to more serious assaults either on police officers or teachers,” said DeSoto County Youth Court Judge Craig Treadway.
He was part of the DeSoto County Crime Summit Saturday. Parents, community members, teachers and law enforcement gathered to hear about crime in the county and about how to prevent it.
“We want you to stand with us while we keep and protect our way of life,” said Sheriff Thomas Tuggle.
Tuggle said one of the most effective ways to prevent crime is to send a message that it won’t be tolerated by standing together.
