BOLIVAR COUNTY, Miss. — Bolivar County emergency officials are urging residents to prepare for hazardous weather conditions later this week, citing extreme cold and the possibility of wintry precipitation across the region.
According to the Bolivar County Volunteer Fire Department, rain is expected intermittently from Wednesday through Saturday. The U.S. National Weather Service has also issued advisory statements warning of dangerously cold temperatures and the potential for wintry precipitation, including conditions that could lead to black ice on roadways.

Officials are advising residents to avoid making travel plans from Friday through Monday if possible. For those who must travel, emergency responders recommend allowing extra time for trips, driving slowly, increasing stopping distance, and remaining alert for black ice, particularly on bridges and overpasses.

Residents are also encouraged to notify someone when leaving home and upon arriving at their destination, and to always wear a seatbelt.

Weather Service graphics shared by local officials indicate elevated cold-weather risks, with wind chills near 15 degrees and overnight lows ranging from 15 to 25 degrees. Daytime highs are expected to remain below freezing in some areas, increasing the risk of hypothermia with prolonged exposure and potential damage to exposed pipes.

Emergency officials urge residents to continue monitoring local forecasts and weather alerts as conditions may change.
