GREENVILLE, Miss. — Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons announced the City Council has voted to lift the citywide curfew and end the local state of emergency following continued reductions in crime.

The curfew was enacted amid heightened criminal activity. With the emergency declaration lifted, businesses may resume normal operations in accordance with local, state and federal laws.

“I am proud to report that, based on continued reductions in crime and improving public safety conditions, the Greenville City Council has voted to lift the citywide curfew and determined that a local emergency declaration is no longer necessary,” Simmons said in a statement.

He credited law enforcement officers, state and federal partners, city staff and community members for the progress and said the city will continue investing in strategies that promote safety and accountability.
