OLIVE BRANCH, Miss.–Colby Alan Towles had his charges upgraded from aggravated assault on an officer to attempted murder during a Tuesday court appearance. He is also facing a conspiracy charge.
Towles, 34, of Olive Branch, is the man accused of shooting at Olive Branch police officers March 11. Those officers had someone else pulled over. Police say he initially drove off, but returned, shooting at officers. They shot back. Towles escaped, making to Springfield, Missouri, where he was captured at a motel.
It’s still not clear why he had a beef with those officers.
As a consequence of the upgraded charges, Towles bail was set a $1 million.
Towles’s girlfriend, Sarah Skriver, was also arrested as an accessory.
