CLARKSDALE, Miss.–City of Clarksdale taxpayers are being spared some drastic increases in city liability and other insurance premiums. At a hurried Board of Commissioners meeting Monday, the city’s insurance agent, David Huggins, gave a presentation on 2025 premiums.
“On a commercial renewal in this day and time I thought it was very reasonable,” said Huggins, after telling the board the renewal would mean premiums go up about five percent.
Mayor Chuck Espy praised the premium prices.
“Across the industry they’re saying 15 and 25 percent increases just everywhere and we’re sitting at only a five percent increase,” said Espy.
Huggins said most of the liability claims against the city are frivolous and are contested.
