Clarksdale Commissioner Questions City’s Move to Seek Applications for Top Jobs

CLARKSDALE, Miss.–The City of Clarksdale is accepting applications for positions for top jobs in the city. It was unclear whether the administration intends to dismiss the people currently in those jobs. But, one commissioner was upset about it at this week’s meeting of the Board of Commissioners.

“I don’t understand why we are fielding job applications for people we currently have employed that are already doing a super job,” said Ward 2 Commissioner Jimmy Harris.

The jobs that are open include police chief, fire chief, public works director and public buildings director.

“I don’t have any idea and I sure don’t understand that,” said Harris. “I like the people that we’ve got running it and the way you’re running it and the job you’re doing. I tip my hat to you.”

Harris expressed dissatisfaction at the previous board meeting over the way new Mayor Orlando Paden was conducting city business.
