CLARKSDALE, Miss.–Clarksdale has an opportunity to help both Helena, Arkansas and itself by helping host an event before the King Biscuit Blues Festival, which had been canceled for 2025, but has since been rescheduled in smaller form for Oct. 10 and 11.
“Meanwhile they’ve made public that they are not doing something for Wednesday and Thursday. So, this is our opportunity for this year,” said Carlene Btars, at this week’s Board of Commissioners meeting.
She said people who normally attend the festival stay and spend money in Clarksdale and immediately attend the Pinetop Perkins festival, which is in Clarksdale, following King Biscuit.
“We are organizing something on Wednesday and Thursday. The time sensitivity of this is very important because a number of folks have already canceled their plane tickets,” she said.
The board was asked for a resolution which would serve as a pledge for a financial commitment to help bring in bands and create a one-time pre-festival event.
