CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal shooting of a Clarksdale man that occurred Saturday night in the Land Acres community, authorities said.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 10:19 p.m. Saturday to the area of Walker Drive and Perry Drive after receiving reports of multiple gunshots and a residence being struck by gunfire, according to the sheriff’s office.
While deputies were responding to the scene, they received a second call reporting that a Black male had arrived at the emergency department at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound. Deputies responded to both locations.
At the Walker Drive residence, investigators learned the homeowner heard multiple gunshots that appeared to have been fired from an automatic-style weapon. The homeowner reported that two bullets entered his son’s bedroom, while another projectile penetrated the roof of the home. No injuries were reported at the residence.
As deputies canvassed the area, they recovered multiple shell casings from the driveway of a home in the 200 block of Perry Drive. The shell casings were collected as evidence, and several persons of interest were detained for questioning.
At the hospital, deputies interviewed a man who initially told investigators that he and the victim, later identified as 23-year-old Tykedius Moore of Clarksdale, were traveling north on U.S. Highway 61 near Mullens-Williams Road when another vehicle pulled alongside them and opened fire.
Moore later died from his injuries at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.
As the investigation continued, detectives determined Moore was not shot on U.S. Highway 61 as initially reported. Investigators said the evidence indicates he was shot during an exchange of gunfire on Perry Drive.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office are jointly investigating the homicide.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
