Clarksdale, MS – Mayor Chuck Espy will reveal on December 30th whether he will run for re-election in 2025. Espy said his decision hinges on forthcoming information from the Mississippi Public Employees’ Retirement System, which will determine if he can receive his retirement while serving as a full-time mayor without drawing a salary.
“If the system confirms I can receive my retirement and still serve the city without a salary, I will ask voters to re-elect me in 2025,” Espy said. “This would save taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars, money that could go towards hiring more police officers or improving our public works.”
Espy, who has served as mayor since 2017, said the city has made significant progress in recent years and he wants to continue that progress. He emphasized his commitment to serving the people of Clarksdale without compensation.
Espy, a Democrat, has not yet made a final decision but says he will make his announcement at noon on December 30.
