CLARKSDALE, Miss.–Peace on Earth may not be achieved in our lifetime. But, Clarksdale Mayor Chuck Espy wants peace in his city.
He has expressed dismay several times over the Jan. 6 incident at the U.S. Capitol and at the FEMA workers who skipped a house in North Carolina because that person had a Donald Trump sign in their yard. He also recently experienced some venom spit in his direction on social media.
When a citizen came to the Board of Commissioners meeting this week to complain about another resident of the city, Espy stopped him and asked him to dial it down.
“I’m asking if someone hits you last, you’re just gonna have to turn the other cheek. I’m sorry. It’s not a fair world we live in,” said Espy.
He called the Jan. 6 and North Carolina actions just “plain evil”.
“It’s also downright evil on social media when I’m trying to help people, people start saying something negative because we’re trying to get information to the masses,” he said. “At some point the light is gonna have to shine through.”
The resident he was addressing has been to the board several times with similar complaints.
