CLARKSDALE, Miss.–Clarksdale has no movie theater, but an online petition to have screenings of the movie “Sinners” was successful and starting Thursday, the movie will be screened several times for free.
The director, Ryan Coogler, is expected to attend.
The movie stars Michael B. Jordan and is about two brothers who open a juke joint in Clarksdale.
“Those local individuals who put this together from the grassroots effort, I am so proud of them to represent Clarksdale,” said Mayor Chuck Espy, talking to WREG-TV in Memphis.
Espy credited not only the local people who made the effort, but also Warner Bros., for making it possible.
“They’re gonna be there in our city Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The movie will be shown for about three days, and they’re gonna have a panel that starts Thursday at 11 o’clock.”
