CLARKSDALE, Miss.–Clarksdale Public Utilities was called on the carpet this week with a public meeting and question and answer session at City Hall, agreeing to the meeting after complaints about high utility bills.
“Clarksdale Public Utilities electric charges are lower than our closest competitors and neighbors at Coahoma Electric and Entergy,” said CPU Gen. Manager Curtis Boschert, who sought to address the issue within the first 15 minutes of the meeting.
He brought comparisons, with a typical bill from each of the utilities, adding up the basic charges and usage charges.
Boschert also pointed out what may to some people be obvious.
“It’s been hot,” he said. “Obviously the warmer it is outside the harder your unit has to work to cool your house.”
Boschert pointed out that even though you may not change the temperature on your thermostat, the usage charges are still going to go up during hotter months.
He said sacrificing a bit of comfort and setting the thermostat higher can result in significant savings.
