CLEVELAND, Miss. — A Cleveland man wanted on a bench warrant for failure to appear in court on a sexual battery charge was taken into custody Thursday after barricading himself inside his home for more than four hours, according to the Cleveland Police Department.

Police said officers, along with assisting law enforcement agencies, were serving an active arrest warrant for 51-year-old Jayonto Daniels at his residence on the 300 block of South Chrisman Street on May 13.

According to authorities, Daniels refused to comply with law enforcement commands and barricaded himself inside the residence.

Officials said officers established communication with Daniels and remained in contact with him for more than four hours in an effort to resolve the situation.

After negotiations, officers entered the residence and took Daniels into custody. Police said Daniels had sustained self-inflicted injuries and was transported to Bolivar Medical Center for treatment.

Once released, Daniels will be held at the Bolivar County Correctional Facility while awaiting a trial date.
Cleveland Police Chief Dudley Tribble thanked the law enforcement agencies that assisted in the arrest.
