COLDWATER, Miss.— People who live in Tate, Tunica, Panola, and Coahoma counties would be affected, were the dam on the Coldwater River at Arkabutla Lake to give way.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg post, says an excessive water on the reservoir there, and a depression in the earthen dam that was noticed last year have given them some calls for concern.
While a breach is not considered imminent, representatives from the Corps tell Delta Radio that a flash flood watch for counties in the immediate area around the dam, including Delta counties, has been issued because of the dam’s condition.
They say the structure has not changed, but they have inspectors out, checking it regularly to make sure that stays the same.
