YAZOO CITY, Miss.–Dangerously cold weather is expected to continue for Delta counties through Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service. But, the predictions for snow only include counties in the south Delta, such as Yazoo, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena and Sharkey.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the southern Delta counties through Tuesday. As much as one inch could fall in those areas, according to the prediction Sunday.
As far as the extreme cold goes, Delta counties began experiencing wind chills in the teens and even single digits in some cases Sunday night. With actual temperatures in the teens and low 20s, people were being warned to make sure pipes are covered and water is left dripping for the next several days to prevent bursting.
Animals should also be kept indoors and you should avoid being out in the extreme cold for long periods of time.
