JACKSON, Miss.–No Delta colleges or universities were included either in the discussion about Mississippi’s new AI program, nor in a round of grants announced Thursday for AI advancement, by Gov. Tate Reeves.

Grants were announced for Alcorn State, Belhaven College, Tougaloo College, Millsaps College, Jackson State University, Mississippi College, the University of Southern Mississippi, Mississippi State University and Ole Miss, totaling more than $9 million.

Reeves announced the beginnings of the Mississippi AI Talent Accelerator Program, which is meant to make sure Mississippi’s workforce is trained to be able to work in the artificial intelligence field, as the state prepares to host the new Amazon Web Services expansion.

The Delta has thus far benefitted from the building of the new Entergy power plant in Greenville, to provide power for the immense needs of the facilities.

But, neither Delta State University nor Mississippi Valley State University were included in the initiative to be able to train people for the workforce. The Delta’s community colleges were also not mentioned in the discussion.
