GREENWOOD, Miss. — Delta Correctional Facility is expanding educational opportunities for incarcerated women through a partnership with Mississippi Valley State University and Mississippi Delta Community College.

The collaboration allows female inmates to enroll in college-level courses offered on-site at the facility.
Mississippi Valley State University provides classes through its Prison Educational Partnership Program, or PEPP. Four courses are available during the current semester, including economics, art history and history. An academic support lab is also offered to assist students with coursework and skill development.

Courses are taught in traditional classroom settings inside the facility, with university professors regularly meeting with and instructing students in person.

Thirty-six female inmates are currently enrolled in MVSU classes, according to program officials.
The partnership is designed to expand access to higher education and provide incarcerated individuals with academic credentials and workforce skills that may support successful reentry upon release.
