Delta Facing Moderate Drought Amid Heat, Lack of Rain

ARCOLA, Miss.–The Delta is in need of rain. Most of the Delta is now considered to be in a moderate drought, according to the most recent data from the drought monitor.

Most of the northern part of the state is at least considered to be in a slight drought.

Some areas are behind several inches in rainfall totals for the last couple of months, without sustained or prolonged rainfall and the abnormal heat contributing to the conditions.

While some rain is forecast for the end of the week, the expected rainfall totals will not be enough to make up for the deficit. Sustained tropical weather would likely be needed, according to the National Weather Service.
