CLEVELAND, Miss. — The Delta Music Institute at Delta State University has been named one of Billboard magazine’s Top Music Business Schools for the fifth consecutive year.

DMI has appeared on Billboard’s annual list every year from 2022 through 2026, recognizing programs that prepare students for careers in the music and entertainment industries.

“Being recognized by Billboard for five consecutive years is an extraordinary honor for the Delta Music Institute and for Delta State University,” said Dr. Richard Tremmel, director of the Delta Music Institute. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our faculty and staff, the accomplishments of our students and alumni, and our continued commitment to providing students with relevant, hands-on preparation for careers throughout the entertainment industry.”

DMI offers a Bachelor of Science in Entertainment Industry Studies with concentrations in audio engineering technology, music business and live entertainment technology.

The program combines classroom instruction with hands-on experience in recording, live production, artist development, entertainment business and emerging technologies.

Students have access to four recording studios, a Dolby Atmos immersive audio facility, live sound and production systems and a mobile recording facility. Students also gain experience through internships, productions, industry events, artist collaborations and student performance ensembles.

DMI added its live entertainment technology concentration in fall 2026. The concentration focuses on areas including concert production, live sound, lighting, video and staging.

The program is located in the Mississippi Delta, a region known for its musical history.
“Five straight years of recognition tells us that what we are doing is being noticed beyond our campus and our region,” Tremmel said. “More importantly, it gives our students validation that they are studying in a program that is respected nationally by the industry they hope to enter.”
