CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State University has completed a major expansion and renovation of its Robert E. Smith School of Nursing, adding classrooms, labs and clinical training space to meet increasing demand for nurses.
The project added more than 14,000 square feet of new construction and renovated about 21,000 square feet of existing facilities. Upgrades include a larger simulation center, expanded computer and skills labs, a new nurse practitioner suite and additional faculty offices.
“This much-needed expansion and renovation allows us to better meet the demand for qualified nurses in our region and beyond,” said Dr. Vicki Bingham, dean of the College of Nursing, Health and Sciences.
The pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing program has already increased admissions by 54% from 2024 to 2025. With the new space, the program can accept up to 80 students per cohort.
The project was funded through state bond appropriations, the Delta State University Foundation and private donations.
