The Delta State University Division of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation proudly organized the 90th Mississippi Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MAHPERD) Convention.The event, held at DSU, brought together Mississippi educators, administrators, coaches, and young professionals dedicated to various aspects of health, physical education, recreation, and dance.
Dr. John Alvarez, Interim Chair of HPER at DSU, emphasized the convention’s significance, stating, “It provides professionals in K-12 and higher education settings with an opportunity to advocate for physical activity, health, and physical education. Attendees can share research findings and engage in valuable professional development.”
The convention’s keynote speaker, Dr. Gina Mabrey, shared insights gained from her roles at Jacksonville State University (JSU). Her impactful contributions include restructuring JSU’s Exercise Science & Wellness curriculum and serving as the Department Chair for HPER, later renamed the Department of Kinesiology in 2014.
