CLEVELAND, MS – Delta State University is mourning the passing of Dr. Paul Hankins, a former dean, department chair, and professor who died on March 23, 2025, at the age of 65.
Dr. Hankins, a distinguished musician and educator, made a significant impact during his time at DSU. As a professor of trumpet and high brass, he mentored countless students, combining professionalism with a personal warmth and humor that made him beloved by all.
Beyond his academic achievements, Dr. Hankins was a visionary leader who advocated for the arts and worked to enhance the student experience. He was instrumental in creating the DSU Big Band Bash, an annual event that brought swing and jazz music to the Delta community.
In recognition of his contributions, Delta State University will fly its flag at half-staff from Saturday, April 5, through Monday, April 7.
