GREENVILLE, Miss. — A domestic disturbance call in February led to multiple drug trafficking and firearms charges for two Greenville residents after officers discovered narcotics and weapons inside a home, according to the Greenville Police Department.
Police said officers responded around 6:35 p.m. Feb. 17 to a report of a person shot at a residence in the 700 block of West Union Street.
When officers arrived, they spoke with a female complainant who told them she had shot her boyfriend while defending herself during an alleged assault. Police found the man in a bathroom suffering from a gunshot wound to the side of his abdomen and began assisting him.
While rendering aid, officers reported seeing controlled substances in plain view inside the residence. Investigators later obtained a search warrant and discovered multiple firearms and large quantities of narcotics, police said.
Authorities initially arrested Larineisha Askew, a 28-year-old Greenville woman, on a charge of domestic aggravated assault for shooting her boyfriend, Johnathan Sutton, a 32-year-old Greenville man.
A judge later dismissed the domestic assault charge against Askew after evidence indicated she acted in self-defense, police said.
Askew now faces charges of trafficking in marijuana and trafficking in a controlled substance with firearm, daycare enhancement and church enhancement.
Sutton was later charged with trafficking in marijuana, trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in MDMA (Ecstasy), three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a machine gun conversion device.
Police said Sutton was arrested on the drug and gun charges March 4 after being released from the hospital.
