CLEVELAND, Miss. — Dr. Robert T. Ragan, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, has established a $10,000 scholarship for nursing students at Delta State University in memory of his mother. The Ann Taylor Ragan Memorial Nursing Scholarship will provide financial assistance to students pursuing a nursing degree.
Dr. Ragan was inspired to create the scholarship in honor of his mother, who was a dedicated nurse for 50 years in Bolivar County. Ann Taylor Ragan graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis and was passionate about helping others. Her commitment to her patients left a lasting impression on her son, who went on to pursue a career in dentistry.
“We are honored to have a scholarship established in her name,” said Dr. Vicki Bingham, Dean of Nursing at Delta State. “Future students will benefit from this donation, to provide assistance in earning a nursing degree.”
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be enrolled as a student in the Robert E. Smith School of Nursing, be from Bolivar County, and have a 3.5 GPA or higher. They must also display an exemplary record of a passion for others through humanitarian activities, such as participating in church mission trips, volunteering at hospitals, or working with organizations like Habitat for Humanity.
The Ann Taylor Ragan Memorial Nursing Scholarship will provide valuable support to nursing students in Bolivar County who are committed to serving others, just as Ann Taylor Ragan did throughout her life.
