Greenville, Miss. — Early Wednesday morning, Greenville Fire Department units responded to a residential structure fire at a vacant home located at 309 Redbud Street.
Rescue 2, Engine 1, Engine 5, and Command 1 arrived on the scene to find the structure approximately 80% engulfed in flames. Crews quickly initiated firefighting operations to bring the blaze under control.
No injuries were reported. The fire is currently under investigation as a possible case of arson.
Officials note that as temperatures drop, fire calls often increase during the winter months. Vacant homes are sometimes occupied by individuals seeking warmth, and unsafe heating methods—such as burning materials inside—can lead to dangerous and destructive fires.
Authorities urge residents to seek safe shelter options and to avoid burning inside structures. Anyone who notices suspicious activity or knows someone in need of shelter is encouraged to contact local law enforcement or community resources.
