Early Voting Bill Dies in State Legislature

JACKSON, Miss.–You will not be able to vote early with no excuse in Mississippi, at least not yet. The bill that would have set that up died in the state legislature this week.
Lawmakers in the Delta voiced support for the bill, which would have allowed Mississippians to show up 15 days before the election and vote at the county circuit clerk’s office, with a valid ID. The vote would not have been counted until election night.
Concerns over whether circuit clerks would have to hire more people was the main reason the bill was not considered by a House committee, reports WJTV.
Mississippi is one of three states which do not have some type of no-excuse early voting. You may still vote absentee, provided you have an excuse, like being out of town on election day.
