CARROLLTON, Miss.–The National Weather Service confirms that damage in Carroll County from early Sunday morning was caused by a tornado.
The tornado was rated an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, by survey teams looking at the kinds of damage produced. That means the twister likely packed winds of 105 mph.
It was on the ground for more than 114 miles, causing damage in the central part of the county, knocking trees down, with at least one that landed on a house, also bringing down power lines.
The storm struck at about 3:10 a.m., said the Weather Service. The tornado was estimated to have been about 1,100 yards wide.
