ROLLING FORK, Miss.–The tornado that touched down Sunday night as a two-year commemoration of the Rolling Fork tornado from 2023 was happening, was confirmed Monday by a survey team with the National Weather Service.
“The tornado touched down in Rolling Fork, causing some minor tree damage along Indian Bayou Rd. Then it moved northeast into some farmland along Hwy. 16,” said Orion Jones, a forecaster with the National Weather Service Jackson office.
“It did strike a home at the end of Indian Bayou Rd., along Hwy. 16,” he said. That was the home of Emergency Management Director Frank Eason. The storm caused damage to his roof and a storage building.
Jones said peak winds were 90 mph, making the twister an EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita scale that measures tornado strength by the damage it causes.
The tornado touched down at 7:25 p.m. and was on the ground for about two and a half miles.
