Entergy Mississippi Crews Push Restoration Efforts After Winter Storm in Delta

JACKSON, Miss. — Entergy Mississippi crews are continuing restoration efforts across the state, including the Mississippi Delta, after severe winter weather brought freezing rain and ice over the weekend, leaving tens of thousands of customers without power.

As of 2:30 p.m. Monday, about 52,000 customers remained without electricity, down from a peak of roughly 67,670 outages. Entergy Mississippi reported approximately 80,000 individual outages statewide during the storm, with about 28,000 customers restored so far.

Crews are working amid hazardous conditions, including icy roads, falling tree limbs, limited access to damaged areas, cold temperatures and difficult terrain. Damage assessments were underway Monday and are expected to be nearly complete by Thursday, Jan. 29.

In the Mississippi Delta, customers in Cleveland, Greenville and Indianola are expected to have power restored by Friday, Jan. 30, while Grenada-area customers could see restoration by Sunday, Feb. 1. Restoration timelines remain subject to change as assessments continue.

Entergy Mississippi officials said the storm caused significant damage to both transmission and distribution systems. Crews have restored service to four transmission lines and 17 substations. As of midday Monday, damage assessments identified 234 broken utility poles, 971 spans — or about 50 miles — of downed power lines, 35 damaged transformers and 107 broken cross arms. Officials said additional damage is likely to be discovered.

Restoration is progressing by region, with power expected to return by Tuesday in Natchez and Senatobia, Wednesday in Clinton and Madison, and Thursday in Vicksburg and Lexington.

Entergy Mississippi advised customers who live in neighborhoods where power has been restored but remain without service to check for damage to electrical equipment attached to their homes or businesses. Customers are encouraged to contact a licensed electrician if damage is found.

Customers can report outages by texting “OUT” to 36778 or calling 1-800-9OUTAGE (1-800-968-8243). Those who have completed electrical repairs should call 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749) to request a service reconnection.
Crews, along with mutual assistance contractors, began restoration efforts as soon as it was safe following the storm and are working around the clock until power is fully restored, the company said.

Customers can track restoration efforts by downloading the Entergy app, viewing the company’s outage map, following Entergy Mississippi on social media, or visiting the company’s Storm Center website for updates and safety information.
