JACKSON, Miss. – As scorching summer temperatures drive up energy costs, Entergy Mississippi is stepping in with a $628,000 contribution to support vulnerable residents. The donation, announced during the company’s annual Beat the Heat Day event, will fund utility bill assistance for older adults and customers with disabilities through Entergy’s The Power to Care program.
The support, which includes contributions from employees, customers and shareholders, comes as part of Entergy’s broader effort to provide relief during the hottest months of the year. Alongside financial assistance, the company distributed free box fans and energy efficiency kits at events across Attala, Claiborne, Hinds and Sunflower counties.
“High temperatures in our service area are notorious for causing higher utility bills, which leaves many of our customers struggling to make ends meet,” said Valarie Mabry, public affairs analyst at Entergy Mississippi. “It’s why we’re thankful for our community partners who help us get these important resources to homes in need.”
Community organizations partnering with Entergy for the effort included the Oprah Winfrey Boys and Girls Club in Attala County, AJFC Community Action Agency in Claiborne, New Horizon Ministries in Hinds, and Boss Lady Workforce Development in Sunflower.
In some areas, customers also had access to cooling stations and energy-saving tips. Each energy efficiency kit included LED light bulbs, an advanced power strip, faucet aerators and weatherstripping — items that can help households save up to $300 annually.
