Extreme Heat Warning in Effect for Mississippi Delta Through Tuesday

GREENWOOD, Miss.–An extreme heat warning is in effect at least through Tuesday in the Delta, with actual highs at or just over 100 and heat indices at or exceeding 111.

“Area-wide for extreme heat warning and that’s largely due to this ridge of high pressure that sits up over us that’s even stronger than what we saw this past week,” said the National Weather Service during a weather briefing regarding the heat.

An extreme heat warning is issued when heat indices or the real feel temperatures, are expected to exceed 110 degrees for an extended period of time.

What is being described as a dome of high pressure is sitting over Mississippi, meaning less of a chance for an afternoon shower or storm.

“That’s gonna lead to our hottest temperatures possibly of the year. We could see a little bit more of a chance for triple digits across more areas.”

Storms chances increase again for Wednesday, though, which could cool things down.
