GREENVILLE, Miss. — A vacant single-story brick home on Gloster Street was destroyed in a fire , according to the Greenville Fire Department.
Rescue 2, Engine 5 and Command 1 arrived to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the structure. Firefighters began an interior attack, but worsening conditions forced Command 1 to call for additional units and order an emergency evacuation. Crews exited the home moments before the roof collapsed, officials said.
Firefighters then shifted to defensive operations, deploying additional hose lines and a blitz monitor for high-volume suppression. After about 25 minutes, the fire was brought under control.
The home was declared a total loss. No injuries were reported.
The Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause, which officials say appears to be arson.
