BEULAH, Miss.–The former mayor of Beulah, which sits near the banks of the Mississippi River in Bolivar County, faces up to 20 years in prison, having been arrested and charged with embezzlement, said State Auditor Shad White.
Bertha Thomas faces three counts of embezzlement.
She’s charged with taking over $12,000 in tax money that came from the Bolivar County tax collector. She has been ordered to pay back the money.
If convicted, Thomas faces s possible 20-year sentence and a $5,000 fine.
